The Relation Of Organic Food To Weight Loss

Presently, there is no direct evidence that eating organic food produces weight loss. However, there are many benefits to eating a well balanced diet composed of organic foods. They are beneficial to one's health because they are free from chemicals, food additives, antibiotics, hormones, and GMO's. However, chemically free organic food isn't necessarily free from calories or fat.

Eating an abundance of organically processed foods and organic food can still cause weight gain. It's important to follow the same nutritional guidelines applied to conventional food.

There have been no published studies or research on the relationship between human weight loss and organic food. The only study undertaken was conducted on rats by the Danish Research Center for Organic Farming. A team of European scientists conducted an experiment found that rats fed an organic diet were healthier than rats fed a conventional diet. The organically fed rats experienced many health benefits such as an improved immune system and better sleeping habits. The rats were also slimmer and weighed less than the conventionally fed rats. Even though the research shows a link between weight loss and organic food, the results cannot be directly correlated to humans. Further research must be done to discover the link between human health and organic food.

Although there is no direct evidence between weight loss and organic food there are still advocates of an organic diet. People concerned with the effect on health by chemicals used on conventionally grown food recommend following an organic diet. Following the advice of health and fitness experts, this diet emphasizes eating organic whole grains, fruits, and vegetables and limits the consumption of fats and sugars. The organic diet also restricts the consumption of processed foods containing fats or artificial flavoring. This diet is traditionally followed in order to lose and maintain weight. Yet, an extra benefit to eating organic foods is it limits the risk of consuming foods tainted with chemical and toxic residues.
