The world is currently undergoing a green revolution. Pollution, continuing conflicts over non-renewable resources and global warming have clearly demonstrated the effect our choices can have on human health and the environment. People are increasingly choosing to make more sustainable, eco-friendly choices. One eco-friendly option gaining widespread popularity is the organic movement.
There have been major increases in non-food organic products. One major industry going organic is the skincare and beauty industry. A report by the TNS Media Intelligence found that markets for non-food organic products in skincare, hair care, and cosmetics are rapidly expanding. More and more people are turning to products with less processed, organic ingredients. Companies that create organic beauty products such as Aveda use a wide variety of organic food ingredients in their products. The most popular ingredient used in best selling skincare and cosmetic products is fruit.
Another major industry creating non-food organic products is fashion. Designers are beginning to use organic materials such as cotton, bamboo, hemp, corn, seaweed, and soy to make clothing. Dresses, tailored shirts, jeans, handbags, and even shoes are being made with these fibers. Some companies such as American Apparel use 100% organic cotton in their clothing lines. Others, like Edun Apparel use a percentage of organic fibers to blend in materials.
The furniture industry is also jumping on the non-food organic bandwagon. Furniture companies and designers are offering organic furniture due to the rising popularity of living a green lifestyle. Furniture is made using chemical free ingredients in stuffing, upholstery fiber, and wood. The furniture is also designed to more easily assemble in order to conserve less packaging material. Some companies also offer what they call carbon neutral in which a tree is planted for every piece of wood furniture sold.
However, non-food organic products are not just limited to skincare products, clothing, and furniture. Online companies like Greenfibres offer organic household cleaning products. These products are made with organic plant ingredients and are free from chemicals, synthetic preservatives, fragrances, and dyes. Household organic cleaning products include hand soaps, laundry and dishwasher detergent, window and all-purpose cleaners.
The expansion of non-food organic products makes it possible for people to live full sustainable lives. Healthy, chemical free, ecological choices are not just limited to food but can be applied to all areas that pertain to our lives. Hopefully, more people will begin to incorporate more eco-friendly options into their lives and reverse the harmful effects caused by past non-sustainable choices.
