Organic essential oils are known for their fragrance and therapeutic powers. These oils come from nature and are either extracted directly from the source or distilled into oil. Organic essential oils are found in plants and plant parts including roots, flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, resins from trees, leaves and even certain grasses.
Organic essential oils are more beneficial than other brands of essential oils. They're derived from plants free from chemicals and pesticides which have the tendency to either alter or destroy the therapeutic value of the oil. Wild or garden grown plants are preferred because of their pure organic quality.
Another reason to buy organic essential oils is that they're more powerful. Their perfume is created by the delicate and complex compounds found in the oil. This chemical make-up is what gives organic essential oils therapeutic benefits. The large number of compounds that are in each essential oil makes it very difficult to reproduce them synthetically. Man made oils do not even come close to reproducing the same power.
A well respected advocate of organic essential oils is Kurt Schnaubelt, a chemist, longtime aromatherapy practitioner and director of The Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy in San Francisco. He has undertaken numerous studies on the health benefits of organic essential oils. His most recent research documented in his book, Advanced Aromatherapy , has proven that using organic essential oils really works on the cells and microbes of the body. He also discovered that chemical changes do affect emotional states as well as physical ones.
Organic essential oils are commonly used in aromatherapy which is the practice of using natural aroma essences and oils extracted from plants. It was once thought of as an alternative to therapy; however, many conventional medicines used today were originally derived from plants. For example, Aspirin is derived from the willow tree, Salix, which is noted in its chemical name, salicylic acid.
A common way to use organic essential oils is to diffuse the oil in a room. The scent will fill the air and create a special atmosphere. Depending on the oil you use the feeling can be relaxing, enlightening or energizing. Ceramic diffusers or vaporizers work best. Using a ceramic diffuser, place a few drops of oil in the top dish and the flame from a tea light candle with heat up the oil, filling the room with scent. Certain vaporizers are available in containers specially designed for diffusing essential oils.
An alternative to rare and more expensive organic essential oils are hydrosols: by-products of distilled essential oils. They can be mixed with other essential oils or used alone. They contain therapeutic benefits very similar to essential oils at more affordable prices.
Organic essential oils are for the mind, body and spirit. They offer true health and beauty benefits. However, it is important to know that all essential oils should be used with caution. Most organic oils have antiseptic powers in various degrees. Some oils are so strong, such clove oil, that they can perforate metal. Take every precaution when using organic essential oils.
